History of United Ju-Jitsu Federation

In November 2002, United Ju-Jitsu Federation became a reality when two friends, Ian Murphy and Ian Haussmann decided that they wanted to be in a club where all people can come and practise Ju-Jitsu as a way of relieving stress and to have some fun. The idea that the instructors were members of the club and not a figure of the organisation and that the members had to look up to.

Too many organisations have egotistical instructors that demand that the students "Obey thy command without question" or leave is not somewhere that they wished to learn a traditional martial art with a long history. We wanted a club where people from different walks of life could come together, learn and be part of something to be proud of.

Ian Murphy started martial arts in England in the sport of Judo at the age of 12. He progressed in local clubs until the age of 14 when he moved to New Zealand. Ian met local Judo instructor, Sensei Ken Kurukaanga and continued under his instruction until his mid twenties. Ian then trained under Sensei Jason Wall in Kickboxing until 1997 when he was introduced to Ju-Jitsu.

Ian now practises on a daily basis and is independently graded with Kyushin Ryu jujitsu schools, England. Ian travelled to England in 2002 and joined the growing international organisation of Yoshimi Ju-Jitsu. This organisation is there to promote martial arts and to provide a support system for its members.

United Ju-Jitsu is mow growing strongly with members ranging from 6 years of age upwards.
